New Camera: Canon Vixia HF M52

In anticipation of my trip to Asia, I bought a HD camera. I was torn between the Canon Vixia HF M500 and Canon Vixia HF R400, the difference being lens size and storage capability. The R400 can take videos in true 1080p while the M500 can only take 1080i. However, the M500 line has a larger lens so it performs better at night, giving you more versatility in filming overall.

Ultimately, I decided to go with the M500 because I didn't think I would really appreciate the difference anyways between 1080p and 1080i.

Asia Trip Expenses So Far

So far, I have paid this much to travel to and from Asia. I am traveling within the months of January and February.

USA --> Japan: 570.20 USD
Japan --> Korea: 68.71 USD
Korea --> Thailand: 512.33 USD
Thailand --> Taiwan: 291.15 USD
Taiwan --> Philippines --> USA: 568.80 USD

Total: 2011.19 USD

The only thing I need to take into account now will be living expenses (hotel, hostel), traveling expenses (bus, train, boat), entertainment (show, movie, club, bar), food, and souvenirs.

Credit Card for Asia Trip 2013

For my 2014 Asia trip, I decided to apply for a Chase Sapphire Preferred (CSP) card. I looked around and apparently, CSP is one of the best travel credit cards you can get. There are no international fees and you get double points when traveling and eating at restaurants.

This is on top of the usual 1pt per dollar that most credit cards offer.

I was also given a 40,000 reward pt bonus and an additional 5000pt after adding an authorized user.

All in all, it's a nice credit card.

I also learned about churning but was not too interested in actually doing it. It's an interesting concept that really takes advantage of signup pts.
